Are you ready for the new 2027 legislation regarding residential smoke alarms?
From 1 January 2027, all homes in Queensland will need to meet updated smoke alarm rules. Basically, every property—whether you live in it or rent it out—must have photoelectric smoke alarms that are all connected, so if one goes off, they all do. You’ll need alarms in every bedroom, in the hallways near bedrooms, and on each level of the home, all meeting current Australian standards. These changes are the final step in a rollout that’s been happening since 2017, and they’re designed to make homes safer by giving people earlier warning if there’s a fire.
Smoke alarms are subject to regulations. AmpAir Electrical can help you understand what is required for your property as this changes depending on if you are an owner occupier or a landlord.
There are also regulations for renovations and new buildings and selling or leasing a property. The Queensland Fire and Emergency website details your obligations and required standards, which we adhere to to ensure you are 100% compliant and safe. We can help with any aspect of smoke alarms, from supplying, installing to replacing and troubleshooting.
Replace smoke alarms
E.g. if over 10 years old, faulty or non-compliant
Install smoke alarms
Add smoke alarms to ensure your property is compliant, e.g. new homes, hardwired or interconnected

We offer a range of compliant smoke alarms. We recommend Red Smoke Alarms as they are reliable and offer a 10 year warranty across the complete range.
